Hi there,

yes, I have installed also the antivirus/antispyware part of ZoneAlarm, but this is just the trial version, I just wanted to see how it works. I had the antivirus part of the Terminator too, including the RealTime Shield and I uninstalled it through the Set Program Access and Defaults feature.

For the last 2 month my ISP has been blueyonder (I don't know if this is what you mean) and I trully don't know if they do any antivirus protection.

Yes, I have the Service Pack 3 installed as well.

I've found those dll files through hijackThis, they were among files created in the last 90 days, I googled them (I did a windows reinstall on Nov. 11th, so I was checking if everything's allright). I have the SuperAntiSpyware Professional installed as well, but non of the antivirus programs flaged those files as spywares or viruses. They were just suspicious to me and according the results from google they are some kind of malware and they were not created by Microsoft. Actually the msnspook.dll can be find on codeproject.com as a dll file used as an msn keyboard hook. What I really would like to know if these files are legitimate and only can be used as a tool for a hacker or they are actually a spyware.

Quote :
PCguard
The blueyonder PCguard security package has been re-designed and updated so is now part of the Virgin Media suite of services. The security features help protect your PC or laptop against viruses, unwanted pop ups and loads of other Internet gremlins.

May I suggest you check the Computer to see if the PC guard IS active on there?

If it is and you also have ZoneAlarm on there with its antivirus protection properties activated , it would appear you have TWO antivirus protection programs there; this is NOT advised Evil or Very Mad

it's not, I have to download it first. And actually the problem is that I travel lot, so the reason that I have been using the blueyounder only the last 2 month is that I moved from Prague to London and I travel a lot to different cities anyway and I always take my laptop with me, so I often use different wifi connections. I never had any problems before, first time they have occured in July last year, when my laptop connected to some wifi signal called default. It didn't have a password, it was open to anybody, I don't know who did it belong to, at the time I thought it was some kind of a public wifi connection. After that the Trojans and the worms started to show up and since then I keep finding weird or unknown files.

Yes, it did, despite the fact that the ZoneAlarm and the SuperAntispyware said that the computer is clean.

Does it still say that now after you've cleaned it?

Also how is the initial problem with the facebook news feed working out?

yeah, it seems to be clean, but the dll files are still there. But snoopfree finally stopped popping up that msn is trying to illegally hook my keyboard. The facebook news feed is working fine, it still happens (but it's really rare) that an old story shows up again, but I think it's much better then it was 2 month ago.

May we ask how did you do this re-install?

Could you please tell us which scanner program found these and let us see the report?

I restored my system's factory default configuration, I wrote about that before, those malwares were found by pcguard, the other antivirus programmes didn't find anything
I couldn't find the report from it, but the trojan was called W32/Trojan3.OD, and the spyware: Lineage-MO.
Actually, I'll try to get a new Windows installation from a cd, or something like that - I managed to make a 6-page thread because of my pc problems:), I'm sorry if I'm taking your time, guys...

No worries, that's what we're here for Wink

I think you should strongly consider doing a clean install of your system; and by a clean install, I mean something along these lines: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html

You will need a actual XP cd too, not the one from your pre-built system (if it's not a actual install disc, ie. only a restore cd as you mentioned). Of course remember to backup everything first.

If you want you can try doing a scan with pcguard again. Does it report anything ? If it does it should also generate the report from the scan. Please post that if possible.

Not at all Very Happy we are only too pleased to assist you in any way we can lol!

As we are discussing a possible keylogger infection ,I am sure you already know this but it is worth repeating ;

Quote :
If you even suspect someone has gotten your passwords and other financial information you are strongly advised to do the following immediately.

Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.
From a clean computer, change *all* your online passwords -- for email, for banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, any online forums or groups you belong to.
Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the possibly infected computer because the attacker will get the new passwords and transaction information.
You will be aware that , while you are using the infected computer even your presence on this forum and what you type on here may be being transmitted to ...someone ............

I agree with and endorse Funnytim's comments

My current research suggests that a clean reinstall using a known clean CD with legal licence key is really the only way to ensure you have a clean computer from which to start afresh bounce

Doing a clean install is always the best way to guarantee that the computer is 100% clean.

With that being said though, its usually not impossible to disinfect the computer, but it will require a lot of work and time which may or may not be worhwhile. It usually depends on the seriousness of the infection.

Given your situation and the way the trojans keep reappearing, my opinion is for you to do a clean install; of course it is your decision to make.

I would NOT, however, leave this problem unsolved. As stated a few times earlier, leaving this problem unresolved could lead to disasterous results such as data lost, etc.

Yes, you're right, I don't think I would be able to clean it 100% without clean reinstall, I found out yesterday that the zonealarm was corrupted, in case a somebody modifies it, it does save a log file about it. The same thing happened to the snoopfree, I had to reinstall it. I still can't find the scan report from the pcguard scan, maybe it was deleted...
I installed a sunbelt firewall, I hope it will protect me somehow until I manage to reinstall the windows...

from my re-reading this thread and my continued research on this leads me to beleive you are still infected and the ONLY way to be rid OF the keylogger is to wipe and reformat the Drive using a known clean cd

Your Factory restoration has, I beleive, only served to ,really do a System Restore to when you first got the machine ;BUT I beleive you have retained elements of the infection .

From my knowledge of these things
I cannot emphasis this too strongly
you are advised NOT to use this machine until you have reinstalled the OS from a clean cd

Can you let us know when you have done this so we can assist you to get yourself appropriately protected?

You mentioned above that you felt you were 'being watched'? This is part of keylogger activity ;you do need also to be aware that a keylogger can be viewing all your discussions on here , as they will know your passwords etc , let alone any Banking activity you have done .............

Can you please reassure us you are NOT using MSN or sending emails with said computer ??
Have you had further problems with Facebook per ce?

I note on review of this thread that it has had a lot of views and it is of concern that the computer in question seems to have a keylogger infection on it but the thread starter has not reported back on how they have had it treated .

This  specialist forum

>>Malware removal forum<<

has very experienced people on it  who can examine the computer and relevent scans  and suggest  an appropriate way forward.

Just do a google search to find out some  very worrying information on how a keylogger can affect you and others .

Those who read this thread need to be aware of the implications of a keylogger infection on a computer and why you should not do on -line banking, MSN , email etc as you will be spreading the infection to others;treat it seriously ,respect it and get it properly diagnosed and treated on the specialist forum study

The computer used by this poster seems  to have a keylogger on it ; for anyone who has studied the thread's content it would be good to know from the thread starter what  progress may have been made to  get the computer back in the  owner 's control ...which probably  means it has needed to be reformatted and re-installed from a genuine Windows  disc...but has it????

And has the computer yet been treated by the specialist forum to which they were directed? study
